About Our Rattery

Fuzzys Friends Rattery was named for my lovable hamster, Fuzzy. Fuzzy was flown across the country when I moved to Seattle from Minneapolis. She was a beautiful black bear hamster. After she passed on, after living for 2.5 years, I told myself that I want to do something to benefit rodent kind and if I was to do something I would name it after her. She has been followed by 2 hamsters who were both rescues.

When I found Spike at a small, local pet shop I was reminded of how much I love and adore rats. Spike taught me alot and after he passed I found Angel. Angel's color is so beautiful and he's so sweet that I decided to join the large community of rat breeders in the Seattle Area.

My goals as a rattery are to produce gentle, healthy rats. I'm always looking towards showing the babies from my litters to compete in RatsPacNW standards classes. I am specializing is beiges trying to pick the biggest rats for big squishy babies.

I eventually hope to incorporate other colors and types to my lines, but I truely enjoy the look of standard rats. In 2007 I hope to add a blue line and hopefully some platinums with my beiges. I look forward to some really pretty berkshires and will eventually add some blazed lines probably in late 2007 or 2008. If there is enough demand I might try to bring in some Fawns, but agouti based colors are not my favorites.

Every rat that comes into my home, including those born here, are welcome to spend thier whole lives here. If I can share my babies with other rat lovers it is a bonus to breeding. Every litter bred by me is for something I want, however, if there are requests for a particular pairing I will consider it. If one of my babies goes to a new home, but that new home becomes unable to care for him or her I will happily take back and and all babies.

Not every rat I bring home is meant to be bred. Sometimes I see a rat type I like, but if there are already a number of breeders specializing in that particular type I will bring one home to be a pet.

I also take in a limited number of rescued rats who are allowed to retire in luxury from whatever situation they were rescued from. All my rats have atleast one friend based on compatablity. Just like people, not every rat will get along with others. Hopefully, by the end of 2007 I will be able to house unwanted hamsters as well. I have a giant soft spot for those small balls of fur.

I an agouti based breeding is requested I will require the requester to take two babies. One basic agouti and one of thier color choice. I feel I have to do this because agouti based colors are not my favorites and the basic agouti is harder to home. I do have to make sure I can home most of a litter before I think about breeding it.

Rats are great, lovable pets. More loyal than a dog and not as smelly as a cat!
